Fanny Rosell Appointed Artist-in-Residence at the Swedish History Museum

A total of 142 applications were submitted for the Swedish History Museum’s 2026 artist residency. The jury has now selected Fanny Rosell as this year’s resident artist, assigning her to carry out a four-week artistic exploration of the Gold Room and create an artwork based on the space. The artwork will be exhibited at the museum from 2 December 2026 to 10 January 2027.

What inspires me most is what is not visible in the Gold Room today. All the hands the objects have passed through on their way there—the people who forged them, wore them, buried them in the earth, and found them again. I want to explore the absence of all these people.

About the Gold Room

The Gold Room is the Swedish History Museum’s treasury. Among its highlights are three gold neck collars from the Migration Period, silver jewellery from the Viking Age, and medieval reliquaries adorned with precious stones. Opened in 1994, the Gold Room also includes an immersive spatial installation by Ulrik Samuelson.
