By highlighting topics that are in demand among the general public and international audiences, such as Norse mythology and the gods of the Viking Age, the Swedish History Museum hopes to spark interest in history, both in Sweden and internationally.
“We have long had many international visitors to the website. With the new content in English, we want to spread knowledge about Sweden's history and cultural heritage, and we also hope to attract more people to visit the museum in Stockholm,” says Jennifer Lindblad, Project Manager and Communications Officer at the National Historical Museums, which includes the Swedish History Museum.
Over the past three years, around 30 employees at the Swedish History Museum have been working on the museum's new website. Experts have fact-checked and updated around 170 articles. The content is now based on the latest research and is easier to understand. Translating the texts into English is one of many ways the museum makes knowledge about Swedish history accessible to a wider audience.
