Mission: Viking

Experience life as a Viking at the Swedish History Museum. On the museum’s green courtyard, you can bake bread and try out crafts, clothing, and Viking challenges. Inside, you can explore one of the world’s largest Viking exhibition. Free admission for children and youth aged 0–18.

Life a thousand years ago was full of challenges. If you had lived back then, you would have had to learn how to farm and cook, make your own tools and equipment, trade goods, and know how to defend yourself against attacks.

Meet the Viking Age in the museum’s courtyard and try out life as a Viking! Bake bread, learn about crafts, dress up, and test Viking games and activities.

In the exhibition The Viking World, you’ll get up close to authentic objects from the Viking Age that tell the story of life a thousand years ago. Guided tours are offered daily.

Summer Opening Hours 2025

The courtyard is open daily from June 11 to August 31, 10:00 AM to 4:45 PM.
We are closed on Midsummer Eve and Midsummer Day.
