Fruit

Otto Frödin’s excavations

100 finds of apple were recorded during Frödin’s excavations. Many were carbonised but some were unburnt. The apples were identified as wild apples (Malus silvestris), but they are larger than the wild apples of the present. This may indicate some form of human management (Browall 2011: tabell 4, tabell 183; p. 341 ff).

Two pips were thought to be from pears, but it could not be conclusively shown that they really were prehistoric (Browall 2011: 343).

All the fruit found during Frödin’s excavations has not been registered in the museum database, which explains the difference between the table above and the tables published by Browall (2011: tabell 183).
